A journal entry from Luindon
The mountains are ever rising and vast. After one is behind it seems that
ten more rise in its defeat. I see the reason for the despair in the eyes
of my followers. This expedition has gone on for so long now it almost
seems as if time has no meaning. The guides are wonderful and the first of
the journey was almost like a tour of the mountains, however after passing
the old tunnels and homes we have come into the unknown regions. Season
after season in the blizzard cold of night and the beating sun of the day we
have searched for the lost city of legend to no avail.
When the people of Orasaren first arrived at the base of the mountains
following the Ri'Semaida they met a people there that were mystical and
ancient. At first their numbers seemed small but after a time it was shown
that their numbers matched our own. It seemed that they came from what was
left of a civilization long passed deep in mountains.
After a time our peoples became one, culture, religion, and even languages
combined. The tower was built and the most powerful mages began to study
there helping one another and the people. All of our written knowledge was
put there and all records of words were taken in account and recorded as
well.
My interest in the deep past of these peoples is what has lead me on this
journey. Reading their ancients legends and lore I saw that the oldest
seemed to portray a great and ancient city in deep in the mountains with a
great temple in its center. I believe that legends come from truth;
therefore I believe that I have found the land that the ancient people
belong to.
The wonders, the knowledge that might be preserved here I know not but I
will not stop looking until I find this place. We have seen some signs of
the civilization long past in the forms of ancient walls, a stairway, and a
large pillar, yet the city has not been found.
I have decided that at the end of the year the journey will end for a time
and we will return to the tower and then to Rhudyn for supplies. Soon after
I will again return to this spot and begin my search anew.
